By adopting old family photographs, abandoned by the juxtaposition of times and generations, the artist Ana Lúcia Mariz is led to abort the identity of forgotten characters, departed from a beginning and their origins, launched into a state of eternal nullity. An intermission comes in an interventional gesture, when she suggests the deletion of the living on the old photographs, sheltering them, perhaps, in a firmament, a place beyond, preserved from the oblivion of men and their vain eternities.
From the old photographs, now one sees ruins. The reconfiguration of old scenarios is instituted through mysterious embroideries, a backstitch in white thread over a black fabric, a territory which is also orphaned by light. Denunciatory act of dead times, the memory of eternal archetypes of the landscape. The artist’s work subverts the rigor of the technique and joins the disobedience of those who defy places to the soul.
